Read the full storyHarlow was designated a new town in 1947 and built to a plan, with neighbourhoods separated by green wedges and sculpture put up in the streets on purpose. Saffron Walden, twenty miles north, is the opposite: a medieval market town with a maze of old streets. Great Dunmow sits between them.
Harlow Online covers all three. Harlow has its own district council; Saffron Walden and Dunmow are in another, and Stansted Airport sits in that one too, which shapes a great deal of the planning argument up there. We name the right authority every time. Everything we publish comes from the councils’ own registers and papers, with a link to the document on each fact.
