The Purple Emperor reopened in May 2023 after a £213,000 refurbishment, and is the community local at Burgoyne Hatch off Momples Road in Harlow. It is run under Admiral Taverns' Proper Pubs arm by Richard and Karen Holloway. The work brought new flooring, a new back bar and a modernised function room, and the licensees fundraised for a defibrillator at the pub. It runs live music, karaoke and sport, with drinks offers through the year, and holds the top Food Standards Agency hygiene rating of 5.
